Midwest Mama: 6 Kansas City-Made Products for Pregnancy and Postpartum

My daughter just turned six weeks old, and it struck me recently that the pregnancy and postpartum essentials I’ve been reaching for over and over have been made by Kansas City local businesses that are at least partly women-owned. Here are six Kansas City-made holistic wellness products I’d recommend to anyone who is pregnant, postpartum or just looking for a little self-care.

Lavender Hill Farm KCK: The Grace Lavender Roll On and Eyeglass Shaped Pillow

I could not believe my ears when I heard there was a lavender farm in Kansas City, KS. Upon that revelation earlier this summer,  I hightailed it to the farm as soon as possible. Jenny, Joe and Ben, a mother, father and son who run Lavender Hill Farm KCK, are genuinely some of the most warm and welcoming people I’ve ever met, which is saying a lot for the Midwest. Their inspiration to become lavender farmers came from the call to help victims of sex trafficking crimes, and proceeds of their sales have always gone to Veronica’s Voice, now merged with ReHope. I was so happy to read their recent feature in  Kansas City Magazine. They deserve all the praise and support.

I brought the Grace Lavender Roll On with me to the hospital to ease my mind and relieve headaches, and have used it several times throughout the week since having my baby. Along with that I keep a mini version in my desk at work, which I used frequently while dealing with deadlines in my third trimester. :)

The lavender-filled Eyeglass Shaped Pillow is such a unique item. Admittedly, my phone screen time has been up on maternity leave, and I lean my head back and place the pillow over my eyes to give them a rest. I recommend it for anyone who finds themselves looking at a screen all day.

Their products are sold online and throughout the month at City Market in Kansas City.

Next to Nature Farm: Healing Salve

If we speak  on a regular basis, you’ve probably heard me gush about Next to Nature Farm. Next to Nature is owned by my friend Megan, and her husband Chad. Megan is a powerhouse community leader whom I deeply admire, and I often wonder where she finds the hours in the day to do all she does. From their honeys and jams, to infused olive oils and beyond, I have yet to purchase a product from them that didn’t feel like it needed to be a staple in my pantry. But that’s only scratching the surface of what they offer, as they have incredible natural care products as well.

Their Healing Salve was one of the first products I bought from their shop in downtown Leavenworth, KS, and it’s without a doubt my most repurchased. The one word that comes to mind when describing this stuff is MAGIC. I keep a few of these around my house and in my diaper bag. It’s the only thing I’ve consistently used for diaper rash, and can attest it recently healed a nasty one up quicker than a cream given to me by a doctor. Along with this I’ll use it to quickly fix up cuts, scrapes and dry skin. If you told me it healed up a broken bone, I would probably believe you!

You can find Next to Nature products online and in markets throughout the city, as well as in their brick and mortar shop at 624 Cherokee St, Leavenworth, KS 66048.

Flourished Grace: Replenish Magnesium Body Oil, Calendula + Honey Lip Balm,  and Mineral Boost Tea

I met Flourished Grace’s owner, Meg, years ago through work, and have got to watch her quite literally flourish as a small business owner. Her inspiration behind her holistic wellness brand for women and mothers came from becoming a mother herself. She focuses on natural skincare and herbal remedies with different tallow products, teas and elixirs.

Her Replenish Magnesium Body Oil became a part of my nightly ritual while pregnant. I’d rub it on my belly and feet, with the help of my curious toddler. I still use it throughout the week, to squeeze in even a quick minute of self care before bed.

The Calendula + Honey Lip Balm was one of the first products I tried from Flourished Grace, and another one I kept by my side at the hospital. It’s my “emotional support” lip balm you might say.  I also love to rub it on my knuckles, which can be dry from constant hand washing after baby.

I learned about the importance of restoring your body’s minerals after I had my son in 2023, and knew it was something I wanted to address immediately postpartum with my daughter. Life with two that are two and under is often chaotic, so I need all of the natural energy and horomone support I can get.

Along with eating a diet that’s rich in minerals, I’ve focussed on drinking electrolytes, trace minerals and have started incorporating Flourished Grace’s Mineral Boost Tea. The mix of herbs in it like nettle and oatstraw are known for being mineral rich, and the lemon balm helps with mood stabilization.

As we come into the winter months as a new mom I’m turning to even more of Flourished Grace’s products for immune support. Their Spiced Apple Tonic and Lemon Balm + Mimosa are two I’ve just started using. Using code REBEKAH10 will get you 10% off on FlourishedGrace.com.

If you end up using any of these products or checking out these women-owned, Kansas City local businesses and grow to  love them like I do please let me know! I’m no doctor, or even an expert, just a mid-thirties gal and new mom who is drawn to natural and botanical based products, and wants to share about them when they prove to make a difference.
